Speaker David Anson will be giving a talk about the legends of King Arthur entitled 'The Five King Arthurs' followed by a Buffet Supper.
We nearly all accept that King Arthur is a composite character and his story has many aspects, both ancient and modern. The story has changed over time but when and where did it begin and how did it get to its present form? Why is it so popular and how did a Celtic legend become so essentially English? David discusses five aspects of the King Arthur legends followed by an opportunity for the audience to introduce their own six, seven or eight!
Followed by Buffet Supper

Society members and friends were entertained last Thursday evening (29th March) by Maureen Taylor's alter ego 'Lady Mary Palmer' who talked about her life, the lives of her husband, children and servants.
Her descriptions of her home, the type of food they ate, the clothes they wore, child-birth and much more gave a fascinating insight into what life was like in the 16th century.
Maureen's passion for the subject was clearly evident and much appreciated by the audience. Thank you Maureen for an enjoyable evening.

Our first event of 2012 was a fascinating talk by Lloyd Powell on the devastation caused in the North by the Normans following their conquest in 1066. Lloyd's description of this horrendous event in history brought to life how people and their homes, villages and towns were destroyed in what would be described today as an act of genocide. Thank you Lloyd for a very interesting and thought provoking evening.
